Significant Online Failure Hits Many Websites and Applications

A widespread web outage has affected many sites and apps around the world, and users reporting issues accessing the internet after problems at the online infrastructure system.

The disrupted services encompass the social media app Snapchat, Roblox, Signal, and the language learning app Duolingo, in addition to multiple Amazon-operated operations including its key e-commerce platform and the Ring security home security firm.

In the UK, Lloyds bank was disrupted as well as its branches the bank Halifax and the Scottish bank, and additional accounts of problems accessing the the tax authority website on that morning. Furthermore across the UK, multiple Ring device owners turned to networks to report their home gadgets were malfunctioning.

In the UK alone, notifications of problems on individual applications reached the many thousands for each platform.

Officials confirmed that the problem started in the Atlantic coast of the US at AWS, a section that offers essential web infrastructure for a host of firms, who lease space on Amazon servers. The cloud platform is the most extensive web hosting service.

The outage tracker Thousand Eyes, a service that reports on online failures, also reported a rise in outages on Monday morning, and numerous instances situated in the state of Virginia, the region of the eastern US data center where AWS said the outage began.
