Newcastle United versus Nottingham Forest, Everton versus Crystal Palace and More Games: Live Updates

Live Action

1 min: Newcastle 0-0 Nottm Forest The whistle blows! We’re under way at St James’ Park and, most likely, in the remaining fixtures as well.

Kick-off approaches for the action. Sky Sports are displaying all four games on one screen, a premiere for their Premier League coverage, but it’s a bit confusing and it's hard to follow, so we may alternate between the fixtures.

On this day in 1997 … The footballer gets a hat-trick against the coach's Chelsea.

“Interesting to see that Nottingham Forest's warm-up outfits are light brown, a sign perhaps of their mediocre performances and scores since ‘Big’ Ange took the helm,” comments Jeremy Boyce. “But honestly, what was he thinking of, taking the club's offer? Or did he accept it by accident?”

I was also puzzled, because he likely realized it would take time to establish such a radical change of approach. Maybe he was eager to improve Spurs.

Newcastle United facing Nottingham Forest

“Honestly, friend, I don’t think Forest have been poor under Ange,” comments an observer. “The results are a little misleading: having watched a few of their games, they’ve either been genuinely unfortunate, lacked finishing or had all their players (including their goalkeeper), along with reserves, all the backroom staff, the bus driver, the club mascot and the tea lady all moved forward for a (near) corner in the last seconds of a match.

“I’m not Ange’s biggest fan for a bunch of causes*, but I’m truly concerned of Nottingham Forest's offensive strength (including on their reserves). We might see a few twists and turns in this one.

* He ignored my ‘connection request’ on LinkedIn.

I don't understand the coach being under so much scrutiny. His tenure has lasted less 30 days. The single justifiable cause for firing him at this point would be if he criticizing Brian Clough’s famous sweater, and even then a public apology would likely be enough.

Everton facing Crystal Palace

“A fine day at this beautiful venue for two respectable teams playing,” notes a reporter. “Chatting to some Palace fans on the way up, they were anticipating a tough fixture, but concurred with me that the striker is the deciding element.

“Nevertheless, good to feel anticipation rather than worry... for now.”
