Family members, congregants from the Heaton Park Synagogue along with Rabbi Daniel Walker, and members of the wider Jewish community came together in Pendlebury, Salford to offer condolences to Melvin Cravitz, 66. Attendees crowded the burial ground entrance, with many waiting outside the prayer hall in the wet weather, hearing the ceremony and the tribute over loudspeakers. The victim lost his life after an assailant crashed a car through and stabbed congregants coming together for a ceremony to mark the Day of Atonement – the most sacred occasion of the Jewish year – at Heaton Park Synagogue. 'Welcoming to everybody' Rabbi Daniel Walker, who helped to prevent the attacker from gaining access to the religious building, was among those at the victim's memorial service. In a memorial message shared on the day after, the family of the victim appealed for space and said he would "always assist others". They stated: "He was so kind, caring and always wanted to chat and get to know people." "His dedication to his spouse and relatives was unwavering, and he had a passion for culinary delights." A neighbor, a mid-thirties neighbour who said he had known the victim since childhood, remarked: "His amiable nature extended to all, and he never spoke ill of anyone." A different resident, Andy Kordas, a community member, said: "He frequently approached for conversation and inquired about my activities." "His cheerful demeanor was constant. This situation is truly awful." 'Cherished sibling' Bilal Ahmad, an area resident, who said he had resided locally for 20 years, added that Mr Cravitz was a "exceptionally pleasant individual" and "extremely composed". "He never failed to greet passersby." The additional fatality of the incident, Adrian Daulby, aged 53, was described as a "brave individual" by his family in a memorial statement. They additionally stated the 53-year-old was "a beloved brother and loving uncle." Three additional individuals were admitted to the hospital with serious injuries. Police recently said four individuals were still detained after being arrested on charges related to terrorism offences. An 18-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man have been discharged with no further action.
